It borders Turkey to the west. The province is named after the biblical Mount Ararat. The touristic spot of this province is the Khor Virap monastery. It’s an attractive site for all archaeologists. The province is home to many protected areas, including the Khosrov Forest State Reserve, the Goravan Sands Sanctuary and the Khor Virap Wildlife Sanctuary.
