Cappadocia is located in Nevşehir, Turkey is an unique place on earth with its valley, canyon, hills and unusual rock formation which was caused by eroding rains and winds for thousands of years. The volcanic mountains such as Erciyes, Melendiz and Hasan were active and errupted more than 2 million years ago and it created lava covered surface around Nevşehir. Throughout the years, the wind and rain eroded this surface and created today's otherworldly appearance. This might be the reason why, Cappadocia also hosted many civilizations such as Hittite Empire, Persian Empire, Roman Empire, Byzantine era and many more. With its fairy chimneys, amazing nature and fun hot air balloon activities, Cappadocia offers great time for its visitors. It is also on the UNESCO World Heritage List!
Göreme is a town in Nevşehir where you can find all the fairy chimneys and get mesmerized by the nature! This town is also a historical region which was discovered between 1800 and 1200 B.C. It was not only a cultural hub, Göreme was also a religion hub during the Roman era. When Christians were retreating from Rome, they used Göreme and its underground cities as home! You can find lots of ancient churchs in here plus it is so beautiful, it has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1985!
Cappadocia is also known by its hot air baloons since it is one of the best place to fly with one in the entire World! With its fairytale looking landscapes with fairy chimneys, pigeon houses, orchards and vineyards, it is so surreal to fly over the beautiful valley and have the most romatic time while gazing the sunset! A lot of marriage proposals took place in here. :)
Ihlara Valley is a 16 km long valley in Cappadocia which also hosts 105 churches on its way! This unique valley's churches was honeycombed with rock-cut underground dwellings and churches built by Cappadocian Greeks. It is truly a magical place to wander around the historical place while listening to the valley's peaceful river sounds.
Derinkuyu Underground City is another ancient place in Cappadocia which is famous by its multi-level underground city which has sheltered more than 20,000 people at the same time! Inside this city you can also find ancient wine and oil presses, cellars, storage rooms, stables, chapels and many more. It is definitely an another must visit place in Cappadocia!
