Christmas Markets Season Opens in Vienna with the best mulled wined and cutest wooden stalls nestled with the gilded city.
Advent weeks are probably the best time to visit Vienna. The city squares and streets transform into magical Christmas markets and city itself looks like the scenery from the Disney movie. Smell of mulled wine, punch and ginger bread intensify the atmosphere. There are many Christmas markets in Vienna, here I will mention just few of them.
The so-called Viennese Christmas Dream in front of the City Hall is the most famous and the biggest one with more than 150 sale boots and 3000 m² ice rink. The biggest Christmas tree of Vienna can be found here as well, every year another Austrian federal state provides Christmas tree. This Christmas market is loved by the tourists; therefore, it can get crowded sometimes.
If you want more private and less touristy atmosphere the Christmas Village in the Altes AKH is perfect place to visit. Situated at the university campus it is popular with the younger crowd and young families. Vintage carousel, children's railway and the curling lanes make sure that you don’t get bored.
Spittelberg neighbourhood and its idyllic tiny alleyways provide unique Christmas atmosphere. This "village in the city" with its well preserved historical buildings and idyllic squares offer special culinary delicacies and its numerous stalls are full of arts and crafts.
An absolute hit with the young crowd is Christmas market at the Museumsquartier. Everything here is about having good fun, DJs take care for good atmosphere, and the bars in a shape of ice cubes are place where you can try variety of punch. The evening is the best part of the day to visit this market, when 7 pavilions start to shine properly.
From the middle of November until Christmas Vienna turns into fairy tale city, so make sure you are part of it.
