Austria, along with neighboring Switzerland, is the winter sports center of Europe. However, it is just as popular for summer tourists who visit its historic cities and villages and hike in the magnificent scenery of the Alps. Austria has a big number of lakes. Normally they are very clean, so you can swim in them; they provide camping places nearby. In winter you can use them for ice skating. In some places, you will have to pay to get on the lakeside. Beside all that rustic, tranquil nature and countryside, Austria has a whole other side too. As one of Europe's former great powers, Austria boasts a wealth of majestic architecture and historic structures. As it was long a centre of power in the Holy Roman Empire, you'll find not only palaces and magnificent city architecture but also grand cathedrals, monasteries and churches.

The large historic city centre of Vienna filled with monuments to its imperial past is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Vienna has a rich history as the capital city of the monarchy, and thus, there is an abundance of historical buildings and museums. Its architecture is typical of the eclectic, historicist style called “Ring Road Style” of the 1860s to 1890s. Built in the style of the Renaissance according to plans by Heinrich von Ferstel, the MAK- Austrian Museum of Applied Arts/Contemporary Art is the first museum building on the  “Ring Road Style”. The Schloss Schönbrunn palace, a part of the UNESCO World heritage list, is located in the Outer West area.

Important rivers in Tyrol are the Adige, Inn and Drau. The region is characterized by many valleys. The most important valleys are the Inn Valley and Adige Valley. Burgenland and Hungary share the Neusiedler See, a lake known for its reeds and shallowness. The Neusiedler See is Austria's largest lake, and a great attraction for tourists, bringing ornithologists, sailors,  wind and kite surfers into the same region. The mountain in the province is called Geschriebenstein. There are many hot springs in southern Burgenland and south-eastern Styria. The water for the thermae comes right out of the earth, heated by volcanic activity and is mostly around 36°C, enriched with minerals and very nice to relax in. Among the services provided you can profit from a variety of solarium, massages, drinks, mud baths, sauna and others. Often there are opportunities to play golf, horse riding, cycling or hiking.

The region is full of river and lakes with the main ones being : III and Rhine rivers, the Constance and Lüner lakes. The greatest tourist attractions are the mountains and the numerous ski resorts. In the cold season, winter sports enthusiasts will find ideal conditions for their favourite sports. Due to its unique location in the mountains it is also possible to cross Vorarlberg on skis. In the summer all mountain sports are in the foreground: hiking, mountain biking, trail-running, but also resting and boating on Lake Constance. In addition, there are many museums and attractions such as the Kunsthaus Bregenz, the Vorarlberg Museum and the Jewish Museum.

The Arts are an important part of the Salzburger tradition: home to Mozart and the annual Salzburg Festival. This makes it a wonderful place to experience both the high culture of the Mozart era and the true alpine Austrian culture at its purest. Salzburg Old Town with its world famous baroque architecture, is one of the best-preserved city centers in the German-speaking world and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The nature is also really beautiful around the area. Krimml, Europe's Highest Waterfalls, the water of the Ache river falls in 3 cascades. You can reach the top of the falls on a wide and well maintained path. You can also have a walk in the National Park Hohe Tauern, the biggest national park in Austria and one of the biggest in Europe.

It is a very hilly area and is well known for agriculture, it is very rural and there is no industry.
