For everyone who admire seaside towns, for all the eternal romantic souls, Herceg Novi - a town of stairs, is a place that one must visit. It is a town with a soul, a place where one can easily feel the sensibility of the locals, where at least for a moment one can escape from a daily routine. Whole in the old stone facades, decorated with green wooden shutters, interwoven with narrow streets and full of stairs, Herceg Novi can’t leave anyone indifferent.
In the heart of Herceg Novi is the Old Town adorned with the Clock Tower, one of the town’s symbols. Just under the Old town is a city marina and above the Clock, stair by stair, and in few minutes we reach the Belavista Square - little square with a small church and many cafes around. In Herceg Novi, every place, every square and every room has a traditional, maritime charm.
One of my favorite places in Herceg Novi is Kanli Kula, just several steps up from Belavista Square. Kanli Kula (Bloody Tower) is built by Ottoman Turks in 16th century. It has one of the most beautiful panoramic views of the Herceg Novi coast. At Kanli Kula, many concerts and film festivals take place and during summer it is a favorite place for many people.
Besides the old architecture and beautiful inner city, Herceg Novi has many wonderful wild beaches that can be reached by half an hour boat ride. There are Rose, Zanjice, Dobrec, Miriste and of course, the Island of Mamula (the former prison) - a place that represents a true attraction. Close to Herceg Novi the Blue Cave is situated, one of the most beautiful caves of the Adriatic coast.
Herceg Novi is a perfect spot if you like spending each day in a different location. This is the city that has to offer as many locations as there are the stairs in the town, or at least the similar amount!
