Small yet *extremely beautiful *Ljubljana should be on the top of your list when visiting Slovenia. In the capital, you will experience a pleasant mixture of the original architectural landscape, a lot of which was designed by Otto Wagner’s student Jože Plečnik, and various green spaces that surround the city. These are also one of the main reasons why Ljubljana became the European Green Capital in 2016 and you will definitely fall in love with it.

The symbol of Ljubljana is a dragon, statues and symbols of which can easily be seen on two of Ljubljana’s most known sights – Ljubljana Castle and The Dragon Bridge. Both. A dragon and Ljubljana Castle are, in fact, depicted on Ljubljana's coat of arms. The Dragon Bridge is located in the centre of Ljubljana, and four very detailed statues of dragons are surrounding it. The bridge is definitely worth visiting, especially if you want to take a picture with the very realistic sculpture of a flame-breathing animal.

Just a walk up the hill or a short ride by the funicular railway and you will reach Ljubljana’s main attraction – Ljubljana Castle. More than 900-year-old castle can easily be seen from the city centre and offers one of the most beautiful and breath-taking views of Ljubljana. It also serves as a venue for various entertainment events, some of the most popular in the summer are open-air film screenings.

Let’s not forget the biggest and the greenest park in Ljubljana Tivoli Park. This beautiful green space is perfect for those who wish to take a long walk or go runnings. It is an ideal place for those who just want to enjoy a relaxing afternoon in nature or have a picnic with their friends.

In Tivoli, you can also enjoy the art when you walk down the Jakopič Promenade, which is known as an outdoor gallery that is open throughout the year. From there you can get the view at the Tivoli Castle, a mansion located at the end of the promenade.

Right in the heart of Ljubljana, you can take a stroll to the Prešeren Square, which is named after the greatest and most valued Slovenian poet – France Prešeren. He was writing and composing in the Romantic era and was the one who raised the Slovenian poetry to the European level, which was an enormous accomplishment in the Slovenian literature.

You can stop and have a seat at the nearby benches and observe the beautiful statue of him in the middle of the square or have a treat in one of the cafes or restaurants near by.

When you enjoy a lovely stroll down Ljubljana’s narrow streets, you can do it with the best ice cream in the city in your hand. Many sweet shops and cafes offer their pastries, delicious ice creams, pancakes and other desserts.

It is for sure! If you decide to visit the green capital of Slovenia, you will enrichen your eyes and soul with the beautiful sights and fall for the spirit of Ljubljana. We would love to see you soon!
