Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol, the fifth-largest city in Austria, nestled in the river Inn Valley between high peaks of the so called North Chain a part of the Karwendel Alps. It is a domestically and an internationally renowned winter sports centre, that hosted Winter Olympic Games for three times.
Innsbruck is a perfect spot for winter sport lovers, who are looking for unique winter resorts. Nowhere else like in Innsbruck you can experience all the benefits of urban life and the solitary of the mountains. In just a few minutes from the city centre using the free ski bus you can be on the slope. The nine ski resorts around the city, with more than 260 km of prepared slopes are part of the Olympia Ski World system with the single lift pass. They include ski resorts Nordkette-Seegrube, Patscherkofel, Axamer Lizum, Muttereralm, Rangger Köpfl, Glungezer, Schlick 2000, the Stubai Glacier and Kühtai.
The Nordkette skiing area is located directly in the city and it can be reached even by foot. It provides skiing with astonishing views of the city. The ski resorts of Patscherkofel and Axamer Lizum, located just few kilometres to the south, give you opportunity to ski on the slopes that were used for the Winter Olympic Games. If you want to be sure to have enough good quality snow on the slopes, you should visit the Stubai Glacier, where the slopes extend up to 3200 metres altitude. It is also the largest glacier ski resort in Austria. The Kühtai ski resort Austria's highest ski resort provides the same snow-sure slopes and is known as a family-friendly ski area. The village at the heart of this resort lies at an altitude of 2020m and is surrounded by more than 25 mountains over 2000 meters and 20 mountains over 3000 meters.
