Prague’s Eiffel Tower

Believe it or not Prague has its very own little Eiffel Tower, overlooking the city’s most beautiful attractions and various of its neighbourhoods.

The Petrin Lookout Tower is located on the Petrin hill, not far from the river Vltava. It is a perfect little oasis to escape the busy touristy streets of Prague and enjoy a quiet green zone. You will also find the Mirror Maze and the Petrin gardens at the top of the hill, giving you plenty to explore during a whole afternoon.

Petrin Funicular

To reach the Petrin hill, you can either walk, or take a ride with the Petrin funicular, which operates at the tram stop Ujezd. The funicular dates back to 1891, when the construction of the tower began. The ride takes roughly 4 minutes to reach the top and a normal public transportation ticket may be used.

Petrin Lookout Tower

Are you looking for an Eiffel tower-like experience, without as many tourists, and long waiting lines? I have good news for you! The Petrin Lookout Tower was built in 1891, inspired by the actual Eiffel Tower in Paris. Even though it is only 63.5 meters high, the peak actually reaches the same altitude as the Eiffel Tower, since Petrin Tower is built on the Petrin hill, at 300 meters above sea level.

The Petrin Tower has 299 steps (of course you can also take the elevator), which lead you to a first observation point at 20 meters and then to the second viewpoint at 50 meters. You can enjoy a stunning view of the city, and with clear weather you can see beyond the city’s outskirts.

Mirror Maze

Right next to the Petrin tower you can find the Mirror Maze, which is a "castle-alike" building. The Maze is a favourite for kids, since its interior is full of different types of mirrors, giving you a different perspective of yourself. Don’t be scared now, it’s just an experience. Due to the positioning and twisted mirrors, sometimes you will be shorter, sometimes you might have gigantic legs, or you might have a double face and body. While you are at it, don’t forget to take a few pictures for fun!

Petrin Gardens and Greenery

The Petrin gardens are home to the Rose garden (rosarium), the Nebozizek garden and the Seminary garden. Going there in the spring is especially beautiful and you will have the chance to see over 2000 different fruit trees. For all the running lovers out there, you can participate in the trail run on the 26th of May 2019, which would be a nice way to sightsee and enjoy the green areas of the Petrin hill. The race is composed of a 5-kilometre or 10-kilometre trail distance.
