The Austrian Alps are fortunate to have lavish and very long snow season. Skiing in the most of the resorts starts in December and lasts until the end of April. However, there are glaciers where the skiing is possible year-around or up to 10 months in a year. The snow on the ground is mostly powdery and fluffy well into spring. Austria offers both very well groomed runs and deep powder off-piste for the more experience skiers.

Ski resorts are usually situated in the deep valleys, encircled by the mountain ranges. Typical for Austria are the small picturesque resorts and villages, with an onion-domed church as the centrepiece. The villages have been there for centuries, so you can feel the history and tradition at every turn. This separates Austria from other ski destination. In the most cases it is possible to ski right into the village, and the hotels are often within the walking distance to the lifts and if not the most of the villages and the resorts are connected with the free ski buses to the lifts.
