Italy is famous for its delicious cuisine, it's trendy fashions, luxury sports cars and motorcycles, diverse regional cultures and dialects, as well as for its various sceneries from the seas to the Alps and Apennines, all reasons why it got nickcoded Il Bel Paese (the Beautiful Country). One of the great things about Italy is that its long thin shape means that when you get fed up with sightseeing you are often a relatively short distance from a beach. In many of the more popular areas, large sections of beach are reserved as paid beaches. Italy is full of differents cultures you can see: Etruscan Italy, The Greek influence, Roman ruins, Christian Italy, The Byzantine cities and The Renaissance.

It is the birthplace of the architect Palladio, father of the architectural style that bears his name and that flourished throughout Renaissance Europe. It was here, too, that the Florentine Dante Alighieri spent most of his life and where he died after having written the Divine Comedy, the Renaissance masterpiece that is the founding text of the Italian language. Visitors will be regaled with opportunities to relax in the region's many thermal baths. Its landscapes are very diverse: from the Dolomites one can travel from the mountains down through hills and plains, to end at the lagoons of the Adriatic Sea. Its climate has made it possible to cultivate vineyards such as those at Valpolicella.

## The island Burano in the North of Italy is the most colorful place I have been to. I love colorful and vibrant things because they tend to cheer me up. And the vivid shades of Burano certainly made my day.

**Burano **is a small island in** the Venice Lagoon**, making it an easy day trip from the **ro[mantic Venice**](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/the-most-romantic-city-in-italy-rd3e). If you are interested in glass-making, you can even combine both **Murano **(where there are glass factories) and **Burano** in a day trip. Since I had about [3 days in Venice](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/a-different-side-of-venice-qcru), I decided to make a quick trip to both Murano and Burano. I was more impressed by **the cheerful and tranquil Burano **and wished I had had more time there.

To me, the best way to explore **Burano** is by strolling along the lagoon. It is great fun taking pictures of the colorful houses during the walk. If you love seafood, make sure to have lunch in **Burano** and enjoy typical dishes such as *Linguine al nero di seppia*. While the nearby island **Murano** is famous for its handcrafted glass, **Burano** is known for its lace making traditions. After lunch, you may want to visit the Lace Museum called **Museo del Merletto **near the **Town Hall of Burano**.

The museum is housed in the historic palace of Podestà of Torcello, in Piazza Galuppi Burano, already home from 1872 to 1970 the famous Lace Centre. In a charming display, which also leads into the museum the islands typical polychrome, they are exhibited rare and precious examples that offer a comprehensive overview of the historical and artistic events of the Venetian lagoon and laces from the origin to the present day. The museum tour, begins in the introductory room on the ground floor, where a movie subtitled in English urges an impressive immersion in the fascinating world of lace, while educational panels reveal the secrets of this skilful technique and its use in more points (point Venezia , Burano point ...). The visit continues on the first floor, where the exhibition is set up chronologically and comprises four rooms, each reflecting the thematic areas: Origins: sixteenth century, Sec. XVII-XVIII, Sec. XIX-XX and The School of Burano Lace (1872-1970).

Murano is a series of islands linked by bridges in the Venetian Lagoon, northern Italy. It lies about 1.5 kilometres (0.9 miles) north of Venice and measures about 1.5 km (0.9 mi) across with a population of just over 5,000 (2004 figures). It is famous for its glass making. It was once an independent comune, but is now a frazione of the comune of Venice.
