This county is known for its spectacular landscapes, mostly made of mountains chains from the Southern Carpathians in the North, smaller groups of mountains near the Olt River Valley and a mix of hills, plateaus and plains for the rest of the county. Its main tourist destinations are: the Olt River Valley and its spa resorts, the Cozia and Turnu Monasteries, the Cozia Mountains and their numerous small churches and fortifications, the Lotru River valley and the Lotru Mountains, the spa resorts in Băile Govora, Băile Olănești, Voineasa, Vidra and Obârșia Lotrului, and the cities of Râmnicu Vâlcea and Brezoi.
