Lying on the North Sea coast, Belgium's immediate neighbours are France, Luxembourg, Germany and the Netherlands. The small nation of Belgium might leave you surprised by its rich and gorgeous heritage. It boasts a number of fascinatingly historic cities packed with medieval and Art Nouveau architecture and famous for their long traditions in arts, fashion and fine dining. If you've seen the best of them, the Belgian countryside offers anything from sandy beaches to the densely forested hills and ridges of the Ardennes. Brussels, the country's vibrant capital, is a modern world city with a highly international character. It combines massive postmodern buildings in its European Quarter with impressive historic monuments, such as the World Heritage listed Grand Place, surrounded by guildhouses and the Gothic town hall. There's Laken Castle and the large St. Michael and St. Gudula Cathedral, dedicated to the cities patron saints. The Royal Palace is a more recent but no less grand structure. One of the city's most famous landmarks is the Atomium, a remarkable steel structure and remnant of the 1958 World's Fair.

The country has comfortable small towns and cities, as well as vast areas of unspoiled nature. About 10% of the area is made up by 188,000 lakes, with a similar number of islands. Finland extends into the Arctic, where the Northern Lights and the Midnight Sun can be seen. The mythical mountain of Korvatunturi is said to be the home of Santa Claus, and there is a Santaland in Rovaniemi. While Finland is a high-technology welfare state, Finns love to head to their summer cottages in the warmer months to enjoy all manner of relaxing pastimes including sauna, swimming, fishing and barbecuing during the short but bright summer. Finland has a distinctive language and culture that sets it apart from the rest of Nordic Europe. Notably lacking in craggy mountains or crenellated fjords, Finland is not the adrenalin-laden winter sports paradise you might expect: the traditional Finnish pastime is cross-country skiing through more or less flat terrain. If you're looking for downhill skiing, snowboarding etc., you'll need to head up to Lapland and resorts like Levi and Saariselkä.

The largest city and capital is Reykjavik, but most travelers don’t stay long there, at best 2 or 3 days. A paradise for nature lovers, the whole island indeed has so much else to offer. There are many hiking possibilities, as well as others that will give you adrenaline rush such as ice climbing, glaciers hiking, rafting, dogsledding, skiing. The main natural attractions in Iceland are Vatnajokull National Park, the largest in Europe; Snaefellsjokull National Park, an ice-covered volcano crater; the famous so-called "Blue Lagoon"; the Golden Falls, geysirs near Gullfoss; the majestic glacial lagoon of Jokulsarion. With about 10 million inhabitants, Hungary is a medium-sized member state of the European Union. Hungary's capital and its largest city and metropolis is Budapest, a significant economic hub, classified as a leading global city. Major urban areas include Debrecen, Szeged, Miskolc, Pécs and Győr. Hungary's geography has traditionally been defined by its two main waterways, the Danube and Tisza rivers. The common tripartite division of the country into three sections Dunántúl , Tiszántúl and Duna-Tisza köze is a reflection of this. The Danube flows north-south right through the center of contemporary Hungary, and the entire country lies within its drainage basin. Hungary has 10 national parks, 145 minor nature reserves, and 35 landscape protection areas.

It is a country of great natural beauty and diversity, and has a rich cultural heritage, including a variety of ethnic, linguistic, and confessional groups. Romania enchants visitors with its scenic mountain landscapes and unspoilt rural areas, but also with its historic cities and busy capital. Over the last decade, it has witnessed a significant development,  fueled by its recent membership of the European Union. Romania will definitely surprise some of its visitors who are more used to western Europe. It has a listed total of six cultural and one natural UNESCO world heritage sites. Romania is a large country which can sometimes be shocking with contrasts: some cities are truly modern, while some villages can seem to have been brought back from the past. While it has significant cultural similarities with other Balkan states, it is regarded as unique due to its strong Latin heritage, reflected in every part of Romanian society from its culture to its language. Things for which Romania is famous include: the Carpathian mountains, wine, medieval fortresses, Dacia cars, Dracula, stuffed cabbage leaves (sarmale), the Black Sea, sunflower fields, painted monasteries and the Danube Delta.

Once the core of the mighty Roman Empire, and the cradle of the Renaissance, it is also home to the greatest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world, including high art and monuments. Italy is famous for its delicious cuisine, it's trendy fashions, luxury sports cars and motorcycles, diverse regional cultures and dialects, as well as for its various sceneries from the seas to the Alps and Apennines, all reasons why it got nickcoded Il Bel Paese (the Beautiful Country). One of the great things about Italy is that its long thin shape means that when you get fed up with sightseeing you are often a relatively short distance from a beach. In many of the more popular areas, large sections of beach are reserved as paid beaches. Italy is full of differents cultures you can see: Etruscan Italy, The Greek influence, Roman ruins, Christian Italy, The Byzantine cities and The Renaissance.

Even if Warsaw is the capital, Krakow is the most visited city in Poland. It holds the relics from the Polish Golden Age of Renaissance. Historic villages, castles and churches can be admired all over the country, and contribute to an impressive cultural heritage that is a reason in itself for visiting Poland. Beyond its historical monuments, Poland also proposes to adventure lovers many activities such as skiing, sailing, mountain hiking, climbing, agro-tourism and sightseeing. Even if you stay in a city, natural attractions are never far away: the country possesses 23 national parks, with Bialowieza National Park - home to bisons - being the most famous one!

Azerbaijan is home to a vast variety of landscapes. Over half of Azerbaijan's land mass consists of mountain ridges, crests and plateaus. The rest of Azerbaijan's terrain consists of plains and lowlands. There are two UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the country: The walled city of Baku with the Shirvanshah's Palace and Maiden Tower, as well as the Rock Art Cultural Landscape of Gokustan. You should also go see Neft Daşları, a city above the sea, the first operating offshore oil platform in the world, located 55 km from the nearest shore in the Caspian Sea. Across 300 locations in the country, mud volcanoes erupt, making up more than half the total throughput globally. Caspian Hyrcanian forests can be found near the Iranian border. And finally, Tears of Kyapaz, a string of seven idyllic mountain lakes, are accessible near Mount Kyapaz and Nagorno-Karabakh.

Entirely mountainous, Kyrgyzstan offers many possibilities when it comes to hiking and trekking. If you are an outdoor enthusiast, you will be delighted to discover its landscapes between glaciers, hiking or horse riding paths, high-altitude lakes… The lake Issyk Kul is famous for its crystal blue water; the Song Kul lake, whose beauty matches the former, is a more remote place you should also visit. In search of the most stunning mountain views ever?  Then, Tian Shan and Terskey mountains will be the answer. In a word, you will have plenty of options to choose from! Kyrgyzstan's cities might not be the first reason why tourists travel there, but still, some are worth a visit. Bishkek, the capital of the country, has the power to immerse your in the Kyrgyzstan’s culture. Osh, the second largest city in the country, is home to one of the biggest and busiest outdoor markets in Central Asia. But what make the country so special is probably the traditional semi-nomadic Kyrgyz life that you can come across, while traveling all over the country. If you want to try, it’s even possible to live like a nomad for a couple of days, and spend a night in a yurt!

If you’re looking for culture and city life, Almaty, the former capital and largest city is the place to be. From Almaty it is easy to get out and explore nature, like at Kolsai Lakes National Park, Charyn Canyon, or Altyn-Emel National Park. The capital city of Nur-Sultan provides a more modern, futuristic and young feeling. The architecture in the growing city is a mixture of Soviet, Western and Asian styles, creating an eclectic skyline. Get ready to discover the hidden gems of Kazakhstan!
