Norway is known for the complex and deep fjords along its west coast, as well as the midnight sun and Northern Lights. Mainland Norway stretches from the North Sea near Denmark and Scotland to borders with northern Finland and the northwestern tip of Russia, and has a long border with Sweden to the east. Norway also includes the Svalbard islands. A great introduction to Norway is the one-day Norway in a Nutshell package on a single ticket from Oslo or Bergen into the mountains, with a boat trip through the fjords. You can break the trip at several interesting cabins for walking or just admiring the view, and even hire a mountain bike for part of the journey. One of the highlights of the 'Norway in a Nutshell' package is Flåmsbana, a 20 km railway that's one of the steepest in the world. Along the way you'll see beautiful mountains, rivers, valleys, waterfalls, and other beautiful sights on your way to the town of Flåm. Go on top of the nearest top/mountain. Just for the walk. And for the view.

At the most narrow point there is only a few kilometers of Norwegian land from the sea to the border. At the same time the county is 700 km from south to north. Nordland mainland has a coastline of about 5,000 km - more than most countries in Europe. In the southern part is Vega, listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. The history of Nordland is a tale about the gifts from the sea: One of the most productive seas in the world providing food all year round. The same sea creates a climate more moderate than any other place in the arctic.

It’s located north of the Arctic circle, so it's the perfect place to come see the northern lights. Troms has a very rugged and indented coastline facing the Norwegian Sea. However, the large and mountainous islands along the coast provide an excellent sheltered waterway on the inside. There are mountains in all parts of Troms; the most alpine and striking are probably the Lyngen Alps, with several small glaciers and the highest mountain in the county, Jiekkevarre. Several glaciers are located in Kvænangen, including parts of the Øksfjordjøkelen, the last glacier in mainland Norway to drop icebergs directly into the sea.

With about 82 million inhabitants, Germany is the most populous member state of the European Union. Germany's capital and largest metropolis is Berlin, while its largest conurbation is the Ruhr, with its main centres of Dortmund and Essen. Germany is a vast and diverse country with 16 culturally unique states that have been politically united since 1871. Even within states there is often considerable cultural diversity.

Close to 20% of the national population lives here and the region is home to many international companies and prestigious universities and 'Grandes écoles' in France. The principal sectors are those of finance, consultancy and other high value-added services. Moreover, the worldwide attractiveness of Paris and the presence of the Disneyland theme park are also substantial sources of revenue. The region's road and rail transport networks are extremely well served, facilitating trade and travel. But all is not urban sprawl, however: the region is also known for its natural beauty, in the form of parks, forests and river land. The region is also one the most touristic of the country, but not by french people. With Paris as one of the most visited city of the world the region has a real touristic power all over the world.

With a steadily growing population of approximately 3.7 million, Berlin is the second most populous city in the European Union behind London. The Holocaust Memorial and the remaining parts of the Berlin Wall, on which graffiti have been painted, are witnesses of its tumultuous past. Divided in two separate countries during the Cold War era, Germany adopted the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin (built in the eighteenth century) as a symbol of its reunification. The city is also famous for its artistic scene and its modern monuments, such as the Berlin Philharmonie, a building built in 1963 whose roof has a particular geometric shape. Regarded nowadays as one of the trendiest hubs on the continent, Berlin attracts 15 million visitors every year. You will see there all the trends of postmodernity: a lot of plastic art and cinema, architecture, music, theater, dance and street art.

As modern as its society is, Sweden is a country full of seemingly untouched nature and ever-present history. First stop for many visitors is historic and compact Stockholm, full of heritage, home to the Vasa Museum and gateway to the Stockholm Archipelago.  Yet, you haven't seen Sweden until you've admired its natural side. Its wide natural landscapes offer a multitude of splendid vistas and sights, from dense forests to crystal clear lakes, waterfalls and rolling mountains. The stunning but rugged wilderness of Sarek National Park, called “Europe's last wilderness” by some, is a challenging but highly rewarding area to explore. It was the first of a list of 29 established national parks and is part of the vast and Unesco protected terrains of Laponia, together with the national parks Padjelanta, Stora Sjöfallet and the taiga and ravines of Muddus National Park. Set out to spot elk, wolverines and more Swedish wildlife or visit in winter for a chance to see the magical Northern Lights. Kosterhavet maritime park is the place to go for lobster or seal safaris.

Sweden

Örebro is a city with 117,543 inhabitants, the seat of Örebro Municipality and the capital of Örebro County in Sweden.  It is the seventh largest city in Sweden and one of the largest inland hubs of the country. It is located near the lake of Hjälmaren, although a few kilometres inland along the small river Svartån. Örebro is home to Örebro University, a major university hospital, a medieval castle, the water park Gustavsvik as well as several large shopping malls and the Oset-Rynningeviken nature reserve at the lakefront. One of the tourist attractions of this country is the Lappish nature, very little anthropized. The Kungsleden, a trekking of about 800 kilometers that runs from north to south, allows the amateurs of big spaces to evolve in the almost virgin landscapes. Isbanan and Abisko National Park are also very famous for hiking.

Austria, along with neighboring Switzerland, is the winter sports center of Europe. However, it is just as popular for summer tourists who visit its historic cities and villages and hike in the magnificent scenery of the Alps. Austria has a big number of lakes. Normally they are very clean, so you can swim in them; they provide camping places nearby. In winter you can use them for ice skating. In some places, you will have to pay to get on the lakeside. Beside all that rustic, tranquil nature and countryside, Austria has a whole other side too. As one of Europe's former great powers, Austria boasts a wealth of majestic architecture and historic structures. As it was long a centre of power in the Holy Roman Empire, you'll find not only palaces and magnificent city architecture but also grand cathedrals, monasteries and churches.

Most of the islands are situated in the small shallow sea of Kattegat and the Baltic Sea, between Jutland and Sweden. Separated from the other islands, Bornholm lies by itself between Sweden and Poland in the Baltic Sea. The capital, Copenhagen, is located at the most eastern side of Zealand. Once the seat of Viking raiders and later a major north European naval power, The Kingdom of Denmark is the oldest kingdom in the world, but has evolved into a democratic, parliamentary, modern and prosperous nation. The country is participating in the general political and economic integration of Europe. However, the country has opted out of the European Union's Maastricht Treaty, the European monetary union. Denmark is the birthplace of one of the world's most popular toys, Lego, and boasts the Legoland theme park in Billund.

Much of the country consists of peninsulas and islands in the Aegean, Ionian, and Mediterranean Seas. It borders Albania, the Republic of Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Turkey. Ancient Greece was one of Europe's first urban civilizations, and the origin of much of the arts, language, philosophy, politics, and sports of western society. The cultural heritage and spectacular mountains and beaches draw tourists from far away. Eighty percent of Greece is mountainous, with Mount Olympus being the highest peak at 2,918 metres. The country consists of nine geographic regions: Macedonia, Central Greece, the Peloponnese, Thessaly, Epirus, the Aegean Islands, Thrace and Crete. Few countries can pride themselves on a heritage as important to Western civilization as Greece. A range of first class historic landmarks remind one of the days when the great Greek emperors and writers made their mark on the development of science, literature and democracy. No less than 17 of those monuments are listed as World Heritage Sites. However, the many charming little islands, sandy beaches and picturesque whitewashed coastal towns are at least as much a reason to come for the millions of tourists that this Mediterranean country receives each year.

Among your priorities should be a visit to the city of Athens to see all the heritage of the ancient greek culture and of course the Parthenon, Greece’s most famous attraction. There are also many more places to see. Do not forget to check the “Modern sites” of Athens such as the Panathinaiko Stadium or the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Once you finish sightseeing, give yourself a relaxed day among the beaches on the south of Athens which you can easily reach in a very short time. You can also go on a cruise to see the islands around. The region also offers parks and nature all around the city. Make sure you climb on the hills to see Lycabettus and Pnyx, Philopappos hill and Ardettos hill for one of the best panoramic views of the whole city.

Most of it is forest, making Oslo a city in close contact with the nature surrounding it. Oslo has a large and varied number of cultural attractions. In Oslo, you can see artwork from Edvard Munch and various other international artists, but also several Norwegian artists. Several world-famous writers have either lived or been born in Oslo. The charm of Oslo can also be found in the affluent inner-city suburbs like Frogner and Fagerborg and as well as above St.Hanshaugen park.

Akershus, with more than half a million inhabitants, is the second-largest county by population after Oslo county. The county is named after Akershus Fortress, which is the fortress of the harbor of Oslo. The county administration is in Oslo. Apart from being one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Akershus, it is also the largest agricultural municipality of Akershus, and home of the Norwegian University of Life Sciences and the amusement park Tusenfryd. There are many hiking and sightseeing spots around Asker, such as Semsvannet lake and Drengsrud cultural path around the area.

At the east the border of this region is the capital region of the country Hovedstaden. South Sjælland offers you the highest cliffs in the country, Møns Cliff and Stevns Cliff. These dramatic, white fortresses border the Baltic Sea and are a great place to hike. You can reach these natural phenomena easily by road. The rest of the area is characterised by open, green landscapes, beautiful beaches and bridges connecting South Zealand with the rustic islands of Falster, Lolland and Møn. From the stone age through the Viking era, medieval times and the present. The region is home to the impressive cathedral city Roskilde, dating back to Viking times. West Zealand has plenty of Viking attractions to look at, including Viking ships and Viking fortresses. The nature consists of beautiful fjords, beaches, cliffs, rolling hills and islands.

The southern areas like Dorset, Cornwall and Sussex are the best place to visit for beaches, sunshine and beautiful but rugged coastlines. The central area contains London and Birmingham, the two largest cities (10 million and 1 million people respectively) as well as slightly smaller cities like Liverpool and Manchester. These cities (the ones outside of London particularly) are becoming incredibly popular in the last few years, with amazing food, entertainment, art and culture growing year on year. The north of England holds much of the farming land, as well as stunning national parks like the Peak District, Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. London has several airports that are the gateway to almost anywhere you’d like to visit in the world, and there are regional airports in many of the smaller cities as well, with Birmingham Airport and Liverpool Airport being amongst the cheapest. Getting around the country is easy and hassle-free, if slightly more expensive than public transport in mainland Europe. The trains run very well, and are clean, but they are quite expensive. Perhaps the best way to get around is by bus with two main companies – Megabus and National Express. English cuisine is really a mix of everything, with more than 50,000 pubs to find traditional England food, as well as a lot of Indian, Chinese food in almost every town and city as well.

The city is dominated by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. The Nidaros Cathedral and the Archbishop's Palace are located side by side in the middle of the city centre. Switzerland is renowned over the world for downhill skiing, and the country is also great for many other outdoor activities, including hiking and mountain biking. Mountain climbing, from easy to very hard, can also be found in Switzerland, and there is hardly another place with a longer tradition for this. Some routes, like the North face of the Eiger, have become near-mythical due to the hardships, sacrifice and even deaths suffered by the first people to climb them. And because of the breathtaking views, travelling from one place to another by car, bus, train or bike along alpine roads and railroads is often an experience in itself.
