Bonn

With about 82 million inhabitants, Germany is the most populous member state of the European Union. Its capital is Düsseldorf; the largest city is Cologne. Four of Germany's ten largest cities (Cologne, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, and Essen) are located in this state, as well as the second largest metropolitan area on the European continent, Rhine-Ruhr. Beethoven, Heinrich Heine or Joseph Beuys - Germany's most populous land has seen the birth of many well-known artists and is one of Europe's great cultural regions. Museums, theaters, orchestras and concert halls, musicals and other events attract millions of visitors every year. In addition to these cultural achievements, there are four World Heritage sites: Cologne Cathedral, Aachen Cathedral, Augustusburg Castle in Brühl and Zollverein Mine in Essen. The symbol of Cologne is even the most visited curiosity of Germany.

North Rhine-Westphalia

Bonn is one of the most cultural city in the Germany where also the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven! This old capital of Germany is only 20 km away from Cologne and mostly preferred for large exhibitions. But it also offers fantastic beer gardens and lovely cafes. You can reach the city from Cologne-Bonn airport or by simply and traditionally by train. The city center is not very big so you can get to see the many places just by foot. ## Visit Beethoven's Birth House in Beethovenhaus 



The world's one of the greatest composer was born in this cute town house in 1770 and today the house is used as a museum. In this museum you can find his letters, notes, paintings, instruments and even his hair. :D And don't forget to buy a souvenir from the gift shop!

Beethovenhaus

To get a little bit insight of the city, you have to check the Münsterplatz where the famous Münster Basilica stands gracefully. This gothic church is open from 7 am till 7 pm and it is in the city center. Inside the church, a very nice smell welcome you because of the centuries of incense burning! 

On the same square where the church stands, you can also take a picture with the Beethoven Monument! 

If you are interested in German history after 1945, you should check **Haus der Geschichte**. exhibitions are in German but you can get an English booklet or a guided tour for a few euros. Don't forget that the museum is not open on Mondays. You can tour the museum Tuesday-Friday from 9 am till 6 pm and on weekend 10 am till 7 pm. 

If you are interested science and technology, you have to check out the **Deutsches Museum **in Bonn. There are so many exhibits that shows the researches that won the Nobel Prize!

The Haus der Geschichte is one of the four museums that belong to the Haus der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland Foundation.
