Wolfsburg is famous for its cars. More precisely for Volkswagen. In Wolfsburg the headquarters of the car builder with their huge factory is situated, but Wolfsburg has more to offer than just industry and work. There are a lot of cultural activities worth discovering. The city is situated just half an hour by car north east of Br[unswick](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/city-of-lions-brunswick-er3w) and also easily reachable by train. The highlights are the Phaeno Museum, the castle, the wake park  and the car town among others. So Wolfsburg is not only for people interested in cars and its manufacturing, but also in science and art in general!

You will be left in no doubt that the city is highly influenced by its big car builder. In the cover picture you can see old Volkswagen factory buildings illuminated at night and mirrored in the midland channel. Around these typical buildings a lot of possible activities are situated – most of them reachable by foot.

Car town within a town?

You get a glimpse into the world of making cars and the history behind Volkswagen in the 'car town'. There are several other options to get closer to cars and the manufacturing of them like the car tower ride, the Maritime Panorama Tour with FSG Haveland or driving on the test-track of the car town. But even without these activities there is a lot to see in the area without spending extra money.

Phaeno Museum

For those who are not into cars there is the Phaeno Museum five minutes by foot away. Its futuristic building is just next to the train station of Wolfsburg and you can still see the old Volkswagen factory buildings in the background.

Phaeno is a science museum, which tries to make science as fascinating and exciting as possible by letting you try out experiments yourself. It is not only a great experience for kids, but also for adults enjoying the vivid way of interacting and understanding science. For example there is an experiment where your hands will pull threads out of luminous gas, conjure up smoke rings or search for something to grip onto in the “Crazy Salon”. It is highly enjoyable and fun!

Renaissance castle and wake park

Only 15 minutes walk away is the beautiful Wolfsburg castle. It is quite nice to take a stroll around it while enjoying the castle garden. If you are up for more cultural activities in the Renaissance castle, there is the Wolfsburg City Museum, the city gallery and art association of Wolfsburg.

If you are up for some sport and the weather come along for the ride, there is the wake park in the Aller park just in front of the castle of Wolfsburg. It is open from mid-April to mid-October and offers  wakeboarding and waterskiing along a pulley. Nearby is a café, where you can be a spectator before having a go yourself.
