Explore Czechia’s most Beautiful Christmas Markets

Prague and numerous other Czech cities turn into "the most magical Christmas towns" during the winter months. From mulled wine to live carols, some of the country’s most beautiful markets open their doors during the festive season and are waiting to be explored! 

Prague

As you might have already guessed Pr[ague’s Old Town Square](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/prague-s-old-town-4m9g) hosts a magical and a medieval Christmas market. The square is filled with stalls full of food and drinks, gifts, ornaments and much more. The market gets a magical feel to it from the live music and horse carriages, which roam around the square. The market also organises numerous fun workshops for kids.    

The other market that also dominates the city centre, can be found on We[nceslas Square, ](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/explore-prague-s-new-town-amq1)which becomes a rather popular attraction for visitors and tourists. As you approach the square on foot, you will be able to smell the spices from the mulled wine, roasted sausages and cabbage, and get mesmerised by the traditional trdelnik- bread dough baked on iron turning bars.

Brno

Czechia’s second largest city holds a tree lighting ceremony at the end of November on the liberty/freedom square, the largest square in Brno. The market fills the younger generation with excitement, with pony rides and a variety of festive marry-go-rounds. You can treat yourself to a traditional funnel cake, roasted chestnuts, Moravian plum pies, cabbage and meat specialities. The Christmas tree is surrounded by stalls, which sell handicraft items and traditional gifts. For more gift shopping find your way on to Radnicka Street, where you will come across the Old City Hall,  which is filled with gifts and crafts, sold during the December Design days.

Olomouc

Located in the south-east of the country,  it hosts a very popular Christmas market on its Upper Square. The market is a rather festive destination with live concerts, performers and bands playing every evening until Christmas Eve. Unlike other markets in the country, Olomouc offers the possibility to try the original Nuremberg hot wine, and enjoy free ice-skating, all the way until February. Cesky Krumlov

Cesky Krumlov has a very familial and cosy winter vibe to it, as every year St. Nicholas walks around the Svornosti Square collecting letters from children, while Christmas carols are sung around the Christmas tree. Kids have the chance to also experience a live nativity with baby Jesus, just like in fairy-tales. Visiting and being part of this Christmas market is a really one of a kind experience. 

Ceske Budejovice

The Bohemian city located in the South of the country, hosts a traditional Christmas market on the Premysl Otakar II Square. At the market you can purchase traditional crafts, gifts and ornaments, while listening to live carols. This market is also a special destination, as it hosts traditional folklore groups preforming during the Christmas season.
