Top 3 Holiday Parks in Lower Saxony

My top 3 holiday parks in Lower Saxony are Heidepark Soltau, Walsrode Bird Park and Serengeti Park. All three outdoor parks lay in the Lueneburger Heath and are perfectly suited to spend a day full of fun away from your daily routine. Heidpark Soltau is Germany’s biggest holiday park and offers excitement for the whole family. As the worldwide biggest bird park, at Walsrode Bird Park one can marvel at the diversity of birds and at the daily flight shows. At the Serengeti Park one can live a real safari experience by driving with one’s own car or by bus through the 'Serengeti' - observing elephants and many more animals. Furthermore, all three parks are disability friendly – to learn more about them - keep reading.

If you enjoy the adrenaline kicking in – feeling the thrill before your wagon accelerates – fear neither altitude nor speed – then you are in good hands at the Heidepark Soltau. Colossos, which you can gape at in the cover picture, is European’s biggest rollercoaster totally made out of wood – renewed and reopened in 2019. If you dare and enter a wagon, the excitement is incredible when it goes slowly up to the highest point – awaiting the fall. In the moment of accelerating down, raise your arms to experience the feeling of flying and pushing the thrill to the limit. Speaking of - there are many more rollercoaster like Limit, Big Loop, Desert Race and the Octopus.

In total there are more than 40 attractions and not only rollercoasters, but many more things to discover – plenty also suitable for younger visitors like the theme world of `How to Train Your Dragon’, the kids rollercoaster, Indy Lightning, and ghost experiences. The park also offers opportunities to stay overnight and is wheelchair friendly – offering parking spaces right at the entrance, toilets for disabled people and skilled staff. Get more information about suitable attractions at the entrance. Heidepark Soltau offers a lot and a day is not enough to experience all of the park in the middle of the Lueneburger Heath, so choose your favourite rides in advance and don’t rush through the park. The park ticket isn’t cheap – online a day ticket is 34,50€ (booking has to be five days before your visit) and on the spot 47,50€. If you want to come back – a season pass for 49€ is reasonable, but there are days, when you can't enter the park with the season pass. Permanent wheelschair users get in for free. Get more information here.

The Serengeti Park offers a huge Safari park with over 1500 free running wild animals with a very special experience. The park is accessible by car or by booking a bus ticket. The bus offers in total five wheelchair spots and most sites are disability friendly. It is extraordinary to experience a safari feeling at the border to the Lueneburger Heath in Hodehagen – driving close to giraffes, elephants, lions, zebras and many more wild animals.

The park has its own daily show program, and offers a jungle or Serengeti safari and an opportunity for getting close to the animal – a petting area. The entrance for 34,50€ (adult) and 27,50€ (kids) isn’t cheap either, but worth spending for a nice family day trip – also with the opportunity to stay overnight.

Walsrode Bird Park is the largest bird park in the world, both in terms of species and area. It has a five kilometre disability accessible circular route, where you can marvel at the diversity of bird life there is in nature, which they keep in this unique bird park. Make sure to watch one of the many flight shows and don’t be scared when a hawk almost touches your head while flying.
